Our School

You’ll find Petersham Central School amidst the tranquil, wooded scenery that distinguishes the historical town of Petersham. Located in central Massachusetts, our quaint schoolhouse is a place of learning for approximately 130 kindergarten through sixth-grade students. We know each of these students and value the unique perspectives and personalities they bring to our school.

Our Mission

The Petersham Center School community is committed to providing a teaching and learning environment in which the educational needs of every individual child are met. We offer a stimulating, positive atmosphere that is responsive to the developmental needs and individual learning styles of each student. We provide challenges for each student to develop to his or her fullest potential and to become a creative and self-motivated individual. Our curriculum is designed to enable students to meet specific academic, social, and physical goals; as an educational system, we accept responsibility for our students meeting those goals.

Petersham Center School welcomes families and the community as participants in the educational experience, and we seek to teach our students the skills needed to participate as contributing members of their families and social and educational communities. At Petersham Center School, the physical, social, and mental integrity of each child is respected, and we affirm the importance of differences as well as similarities, amongst individuals. We encourage the ideals of cooperation, caring, and respect in school, at home, and in the community. We strive to provide students with an educational experience that will enable them to become confident and capable learners throughout their lives and to become productive citizens in a democratic society.

Volunteers

Looking for rewarding work? We warmly welcome the help of parents, guardians, family members, and community members to volunteer their time on behalf of our students. Throughout the school year, we need volunteers to help us in a variety of ways, such as in the library, in classrooms, or as readers. Contact any teacher or call our office if you are interested in volunteering at Petersham Central School.

To protect our students, we require all adults who volunteer at the school to complete a Criminal Offense Record Investigation (CORI) form. Download a copy or pick one up from the school office.
